K9 advantix with ticks?

2 weeks ago i put k9 advantix on my dog for flea / tick preventitive. today i found a tick on him , it was dug into his skin needs tweexers to get it off and when i pulled it off he bled a little tiny bit but the tick did not move when i pulled it off of him , does this mean the k9 advantix worked , like did it kill the tick when it bit my dog but didnt fall off? was the tick reallly dead? should i try a new product? I also found one on him a few days ago moving on him but didnt bit or stick to him yet. We live in a woodsy area in nj and i put it on him every month but its the start of tick season. any help would be soo much appreciated , i get really paranoid about ticks and fleas esp ticks because they can caryy lyme disease and other diseases. And i am afraid what if one gets on him and i dont realize it because its hidden or something. My dog is an american pitbull terrier so he has very short hair , would i be able to see them if they were on him without looking through his hair since its so short. He is also fawn and white so i would think ticks and fleas would stick out right?
